Oh life is gooood! Arrived in Cambodia a few days ago... Done a little bit of sightseeing, seen the Silver Pagoda and walked around lots.
Met up with Jo (girlie I met in Oz) last night and we're staying at hers for a few nights. She's such a saint!!! Treated us to dinner last night too! She knows too well what it's like being a backpacker! Her apartment is just across the road from the Palace, she has stairs in her house! We have a living room! All these things you take for granted at home! It's a bliss! She's working over here as a teacher, and hopefully we're gonna join her at her school tomorrow! In the evening she's taking us to an orphanage, she goes there and helps out every week. Will be very interesting.
We went to the Killing Fields in Choeung Ek yesterday as well (on a bike). The driver was a really nice guy. On the way there (and back!) we were attacked by kids fitted out with water and talcum powder! They were so funny!! We got completely covered in white powder and smelled lovely too! Hahah! It's all to do with the Khmer New Year celebrations. We weren't exactly in the right frame of mind when we arrived at the killing fields, but we it didn't take very long to become sombre. They have a memorial there with over 8000 skulls on display... Horrific.. Can't believe these events took place in the late 70s and 80s... In my lifetime... Where was the rest of the world when this was happening? Millions and millions of people were executed......
